It's your life isn't it? At least that's what one of my kids say last week...stop trying to run my life. (I have decided to protect the guility but not mentioning their name.) And upon reflection..yes this young person is partially right. I should stop trying to run his life. His problem is he is 11 years old and still needs me to run his life...at least that's what the law says I have to do.
But it brings up an interesting point. Who is running your life? As an entrepreneur it usually is your business. Entrepreneurs got soo stuck in running their businesses THINKING they are in charge but are they really. I heard a fellow entrepreneur friend of mine brag about taking his first two weeks vacation in years. Now the old me would have said "good for you." But not now...I said..."Are you freakin nuts!!"
You see I choose to build my businesses as investments that pay dividends not as a place for me to have a job. I choose to build my businesses to work in them IF I want to ..not because I have to. You see...I agree with my child...and will not allow the business to run my life. Last year I took 16 weeks of holidays and that's not including the three day weekends. I choose life..my life!
So you're probably now wondering...how this all is possible? Well for one thing..I own the business and am charge of my decisions. I do not have a job. Secondly...I create systems that "run" my business. Systems that do not require me to be involved to make them move. These systems don't just happen btw...they are stragetically planned and executed with the right team members and resources. But it all starts with an attitude of "Stop running my life" or as Frank Sinatra would sing "I did it MY way." What a great way to go through life...MY WAY!
If you want to read a good book on the topic I recommend...The Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris.
Until next time!
Cheers to Life!
