Last night I was fortunate enough to hear and meet Ruben "Hurricane" Carter. For those that don;t know him...he was once the top contender for the middle weight championship of the world...that's before he was wrongly convicted for three murders. He spent almost twenty years in prison...TWENTY YEARS....for this. I always say going to prison would be bad enough but to spend that amount of time knowing you are innocent!!
But he is not a bitter man. Not at all...he loves life and his speech was all about Dare to Dream. As he did...
When all others thought he would rot in prison in New Jersey...his dream was to get out. He never ever gave up on that dream. And through patience and perseverance he was exonerated. He never gave up. And do you think in the darkest days of his prison time he ever ever thought he would have a song written after him by Bob Dylan, after his release have a movie made after his story starring Denzel Washington, be invited to the White House and travel the world speaking and helping innocent victims find their path. My bet is he did not ever think his life would end up the way it did...
But here's what I was told by him last night in the packed crowd. If he can do it....so can I. And if I can do it...so can you. Protect your dream...don;t let anyone take it no matter how hard it may seem sometimes

It was very inspirational Rivers, I was pumped up the whole back to Saint John and my mind was racing before bed on Thursday night. What a great story Hurricane has, thanks for the ticket!
